World of Tanks, Xbox 360
Razzle Dazzle, or dazzle camouflage, was a tactic used by Allied forces during World War I and World War II. Large ships, such as aircraft carriers, were painted with bold, geometric patterns. Razzle Dazzle did not camouflage the so-called “dazzle ships,” but made it difficult for opposing forces to judge the size and type of the vessel.
The abstract patterns in dazzle camouflage inspired many artists. Picasso is reported to have taken credit for the modern camouflage experiments which seemed to him a quintessentially Cubist technique. In thinking of that historical art context, I wanted to treat the Xbox as a modern day vessel like a vehicle where people log in and tune out to go to war. Tactics and strategy are commonplace. The gamer is a modern virtual soldier navigating the battlefields going up against other fierce opponents.
The customized camo console, controllers, poster and tshirt were all part of celebrating the Arrival of World of Tanks: Xbox 360 Edition. They were unveiled at a brand event in San Francisco, CA.
